Description

Author's note

Maranatha FG is a contemporary revival of Rudolf Koch's Marathon font and is available in a single weight: Maranatha Book.

Originally cut by the acclaimed typographer Rudolf Koch in various sizes, this font aims to replicate the size used in the 1951-1993 Protestant German hymn book, known as the "Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch" (EKG), found in many Antiqua editions. Maranatha FG features several ligatures, some of which were inconsistently utilized in the hymn book, such as the tz ligature, located on the closing brace.

To fully experience the beauty of this free font, be sure to enable kerning, which provides automatic ch and ck ligatures. Additionally, it includes a long s and an irregular ft ligature on the character set.

Maranatha FG is released under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, promoting free use and the opportunity for further enhancements. The reserved name "Maranatha" derives from an early Christian liturgical phrase found in 1 Corinthians 16:22, making it a perfect choice for a hymn book typeface.
