Description

Author's note

Maranatha FG is a modern reinterpretation of Rudolf Koch's iconic Marathon font, currently available in one weight: Maranatha Book.

Originally designed by the esteemed typographer Rudolf Koch, the Marathon font was produced in various sizes. Maranatha FG aims to replicate the type style found in the Protestant German hymn book ("Evangelisches Kirchengesangbuch" EKG) used from 1951 to 1993, particularly in many Antiqua editions. This font includes several ligatures that were utilized, though not consistently, in that hymn book, including the tz ligature, which is located on the closing brace.

For optimal results, use this free font with kerning enabled, as it automatically incorporates ch and ck ligatures. Additionally, the font features a long s and the irregular ft ligature on the open brace.

Maranatha FG is distributed under the SIL Open Font License 1.1, promoting free use and encouraging further improvements. The reserved name "Maranatha" originates from an early Christian liturgical phrase, as seen in 1 Corinthians 16:22, making it a fitting choice for a hymn book typeface.
