Moonlit Horta font was designed by Yves Michel as an art-nouveau inspired free display typeface. It has unique details that resemble classic old signs often found above shops in Portugal. It takes a bit of vintage, a bit of modern, and combines them all in an attractive package.
Spot possibilities for titles, packaging, branding projects, posters, or logos. Make yourself a non-typical invitation, announcement card, advertisement, or whatever else you’d like. Combine this free font with different typefaces (non-display ones) for a difference in style.
The license of Moonlit Horta is free for personal use, but commercial usage requires contacting the author.
The period around 1900 produced the Impressionists in painting and Art Nouveau in architecture and graphic design. I have always admired the Arnold Boecklin typeface, which serves as a remarkable illustration of this era.
With this inspiration, I aimed to create a font that embodies this spirit without resorting to direct copying or simplistic imitation. I named it Victor Horta in tribute to our esteemed Belgian architect, a disciple of Eugène Viollet-le-Duc, who was a precursor of Art Nouveau.
The resulting font is called "in the moonlight," capturing the essence of that transformative period in art and design.
